NCBC August 2008 meeting - Monday, September 8th 6pm to 8:30pm

Blinco's Sports Restaurant and Bar
6711 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh
[Directions]

Topic: Open Mike Night: What Bike Ride did YOU Do this Summer?

Moderator: Sara Huston

Come tell us about that epic ride you did this summer (or anytime in the past 12 months, we'll bend the rules a little) and hear about rides near and far from other NCBC folks. Come to share or just to listen.

No need to prepare! Just spend a few minutes (5-10 minutes or shorter if you want) telling us about your ride. What did you like best? How many feet of climb or mph of head wind? What surprised you the most? What would you do differently next time? Any spectacular mechanicals?

Bring a few photos (about 10 or less) on a memory stick or a pointer to your online photos and we'll put them up on the big screen. Or just do the old-fashioned way and bring a few print photos and any "artifacts" (brochures, maps, mangled bike parts, or what have you) to pass around.

The new NCBC socks (just $7/pr.) and the remaining club jerseys will be available too!

Come early (6pm) if you are planning on having dinner. Meeting/presentation will start at 7pm.

There will also be a box for donations of parts to 1304 Bikes. If you don't know who 1304 Bikes is, please check out their web site [1304 Bikes] If you have some useable parts that you would like to part with, the folks at 1304 are asking for: Metric wrenches, Metric allen keys, bike locks, 27-inch tires, 1/8" (single-speed) chains, Bikes of all types and sizes, Helmets (new or gently used), Chains, Grips, Cables (brake and shifter), Brake pads, Pedals, Patch kits, Lubricants, Rim strip. Please check their website for details.

Updated Club Brochure for 2008!

Hi Folks, I have updated the NCBC Club Brochure for this year. These are the ones we made for the Cary Cycling Celebration. We have around 250 of these left, and I'll be taking them around to local bicycle shops over the next couple of weeks. If you'd like to take a look, it's available online in PDF (Adobe Reader) format. Would you like to take some to a particular store or event? just let me know.

Still Some NCBC Jerseys Left...
Hi Folks, if you're still interested in getting an NCBC Jersey, we have some left. I'll be bringing them to the June club meeting on Monday, and we'll be taking them to our future meetings and rallies while we still have some left. There's a posting that lists the sizes and styles available in our Announcements Forum.

New Requests for NCBC Club Jerseys
Our Jersey Order contract with Louis Garneau is signed and submitted. If you're interested and missed the initial order, there's still hope. The club has ordered some extras, and we plan to submit at least one more order this year. Please read this posting in the NCBC forums for the details. We expect to receive the current order in late April, according to LG.

Club Jersey 2008 Design & Ordering

The new NCBC Jersey Design is ready!

Artist:
Diana Witt
[Jersey Layout Image]
Click Here for a sample image of the Jersey Style and Layout, including the outlines for different sizes.

We need to know how many of the new jersey to order from Louis Garneau.

The more jerseys we order, the better the price will be.  If you're interested in ordering the new jersey, please drop us a quick note at jersey2008@ncbikeclub.org.
Tell us the following: 1) sizes you normally wear, 2) Preferred fit: Relaxed, Pro, or Women's, 3) Full length or Partial Zipper, and 4) Diamond Square cut fabric (most breathable) or Micro Air Dry (slightly less).

Please let us know no later than Saturday, February 2, 2008. This is the perfect time to order Jerseys for the 2008 riding season, so don't forget!

New Club Activity - Gathering History
Hi Folks - As the result of some discussions we've had at recent meetings, we've begun an effort to compile some of the history of the North Carolina Bicycle Club.  It turns out that the club goes back several years, and not much effort has been made to keep track of its roots, how it has grown, and what it has accomplished.  Carol Schroeder deserves the credit for this idea.

We'd like your help putting together a little history for the club, if possible.  If you have any mementos, stories, article clippings, or other NCBC related memorabilia and are willing to share, please contact one of us.  We're especially interested in the pre-2000 time frame, going back to when the club was chartered.
