Interested in riding your bike to work but not sure how to get started?  David will give a show-and-tell with accompanying hints and tips from his 15+ years as a bicycle commuter.  Many of the other club officers (current and former) are also commuters, so there will be plenty of wisdom on hand to be shared.

Come early (6pm) if you are planning on having dinner. Meeting/presentation will start at 7pm. The club will also have our NCBC socks (just $7/pr.), and our remaining club jerseys will be available.

Help Wanted (Volunteer)

Hi Folks, NCBC's Vice President has had to move away for a while, leaving us shorthanded. We could really use someone to help coordinate our club meetings this year. The VP role is an easy one, we have most of the presentations for the year figured out already. If you wouldn't mind helping out, please let us know.

Spring Rally Successful

We had a great Spring Rally with fine weather, cool temperatures, and nearly one hundred riders (96 to be precise). Thanks again to all of the wonderful volunteers who contributed to making it one of the best rallies we've had in a while!

NCBC Spring Rally is Almost Here!

We have volunteers for all of the Rally positions, so as long as everyone stays healthy we'll be in good shape. Many, many thanks to the several people who have pitched in to help!

Don't forget to print out the registration form (see below) and have a check written in advance to speed registration.

The latest cue sheets are online too, but we'll have plenty of those at the Start/Finish at Apex Community Park. Don't forget, registration starts at 8:20 AM, and all rides leave at 9:00 AM. And don't forget to join us for the cookout afterwards!

Club Officers for 2009

I'd like to give hearty thanks to Gayle Lundeen and Sue Roberts for coming forward to be NCBC's President and Vice President for 2009. We held our general election at the February meeting on Feb 2 at Blinco's, and Gayle was elected as our new club president. We will hold a follow on election at the March meeting for Sue Roberts, and anyone else who would like to come forward to help.

As you can see from our officer's web page here, two of us are still performing double duty by handling two positions each due to the lack of nominees. We can still use your help, so please consider offering a little of your time this year to helping make 2009 a great year for bicycling in this region.

The email address is nominations@ncbikeclub.org. Thanks very kindly.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Gracious thanks to the people who have come forward to help in 2009!

However, we still have not reached the minimum number of volunteers necessary to support our club for the coming year. We have more roles to fill. That's what spreads the fun around so that individually, there's not that much to do!

If you enjoyed the benefits NCBC provides - our rides, monthly meetings, our newsletter, club jerseys, our parties, or the help we provide local charities - won't you please consider offering to help us this year?

We are having a planning meeting that includes the current officers and volunteers for 2009 on the evening of Wednesday January 21. If you're willing to be considered, please send email to nominations@ncbikeclub.org. Thanks very kindly,

Scott C.

Our high quality DeFeet Aereator socks with the NCBC logo have arrived. We have plenty of them in all sizes. The colors and logo match our new club jersey perfectly!

[NCBC Socks Image]

We have them in size Small & Medium with a 2" cuff, and in size Large and XL with a 3" cuff. Thanks to our volume discount, cost is only $7.00 per pair - less than retail!

You can read about the socks on DeFeet's web site. We'll be bringing the socks and our remaining supply of club jerseys to our club meetings and ride events while they last.

Still Some NCBC Jerseys Left...

Hi Folks, if you're still interested in getting an NCBC Jersey, we have some left. I'll be bringing them to the June club meeting on Monday, and we'll be taking them to our future meetings and rallies while we still have some left. There's a posting that lists the sizes and styles available in our Announcements Forum.

Click Here for a sample image of the Jersey Style and Layout, including the outlines for different sizes.

New Club Activity - Gathering History
Hi Folks - As the result of some discussions we've had at recent meetings, we've begun an effort to compile some of the history of the North Carolina Bicycle Club.  It turns out that the club goes back several years, and not much effort has been made to keep track of its roots, how it has grown, and what it has accomplished.  Carol Schroeder deserves the credit for this idea.

We'd like your help putting together a little history for the club, if possible.  If you have any mementos, stories, article clippings, or other NCBC related memorabilia and are willing to share, please contact one of us.  We're especially interested in the pre-2000 time frame, going back to when the club was chartered.
