It's time to put
winter aside

for the 'world's flattest century', not even an overpass! The Tarwheel
Century will be one of the most beautiful rides you can do.
Our completely sagged century will take you through the historical

Nature cooperates, there will be azaleas and dogwood trees in bloom
along the attractive waterside.
The start and finish
point is at Roanoke Bible College on Poindexter Street in Elizabeth
City, NC. Registration will start at 6:30 am; the last rider must be
out by 9:00 a.m. There will be a mandatory riders' meeting at 7:30 a.m.
and a mass start to follow. The ride will take place rain or shine.
Hot

Get on the road and ride
through much of Caldwell County's most beautiful hills and valleys. If
your only ride here has been the Bridge to Bridge, this ride is for
you! It is a 100K route that starts and ends in downtown Lenoir. It has
all the rolling beauty and challenge of the Bridge without the painful
finish! No Hwy 181 and no Grandfather Mountain!! Or, if you prefer,
there will be a shorter 44 mile option.
This route has more than 20 hills and wanders
through 3 beautiful
mountain valleys — Zack's Fork, Happy Valley, and Collettsville. Except
for the beginning and the last mile, the whole route is on lightly
trafficked, two lane roads.
It's a great way to get ready for Mt. Mitchell!
The ride will be fully supported, including three rest stops, marshals
at most turns, three sag vehicles patrolling the course, and a filling
meal when you return.

We are on our way to something great - helping people with mental

stroke you take at the annual Bike for Hope raises funds for research
and treatment.
Every year, thousands of people gather at the Angus Barn, walk the 6.2
mile loop and celebrate together afterwards. The only thing missing was
cyclists, but now we have the Bike for Hope.

Post-party fun with lunch, music, and games for all ages. We will
have big wheel races and activites for the whole family. Yes, adults,
you can play with the bigs wheels too!
Biking is not an individual sport. We are encouraging riders to bring a
team to this year's event. If you are not part of team no problem.
While we have a entry fee, we do encourage riders to raise more money
to help the cause. We will offer great prizes for those who raise
additional money. We will also have lots of raffle prizes that all
particpants are eligible to win.

The Fletcher
Flyer returns for its 6th year to offer full, metric and
half century rides that wind through the valleys south of
Asheville. It is the least hilly ride in Western North Carolina,
but it has plenty of rolling hills to keep all riders interested.
There is terrific mountain scenery without the long mountain
climbs.
The century (100mi), metric (64mi), and half century (50mi) have
cumulative climbs of 4044, 3037, and 2216 feet, respectively. The
event can appeal to a wide variety of riders. It is a great
course for first time event riders on every route option. It is a
fast ride for more experienced riders who want to do a century without
spending all day. It is also perfect spring training ride for
those who want to prepare for the summer climbing centuries.

The
BSG
is
a
full

century

100
mile
loop
ride starting and ending at the Valle Crucis Elementary
School, approximately 5 miles south of Boone, North Carolina. The route
roughly circles Boone through the outskirts of Watauga County, the
heart of North Carolina's High Country. The terrain is constantly
changing with hills of all lengths and curves too numerous to count.
The cumulative climbing elevation is 13,000+ feet, with the climb up to
the gap at Snake Mountain, milepoint 63, reaching an 18-20% grade near
the top. Riders reaching the Cove Creek aid station (milepoint 82)
after 2:30pm will be directed to the finish at Valle Crucis, resulting
in a total distance ride of 87 miles.
The Half Century ride, approximately 47 miles,
will start and finish at the Valle Crucis Elementary School. The course
follows a mostly separate route and is fully supported with 2 aide
stations. The uphills are not too bad, and there are 2 really great
downhills. The cumulative climbing elevation is 5,800 feet. All riders
will be computer timed when they cross the finish line.
Definitely one of the premier mountain
centuries. Highly recommended in Rocket

Get
ready to suffer...the Hurt, Pain & Agony Metric Century is 64 miles
of pure hill! The ride opens with a six-mile climb from Traphill in the
North Carolina foothills to Roaring Gap atop the Blue Ridge. With 1,700
feet of elevation gain, a 5% average grade and several stretches of leg
busting double-digit grades, it's the equivalent of a Category 2 climb
in the Tour de France! Plenty of shorter hills follow as the ride winds
through the highlands of Alleghany County, North Carolina and Grayson
County, Virginia. Don't pop a wheelie as you tackle Mahogany Rock Road,
the ride's steepest climb.
"The
Hurt, Pain & Agony is tough, but it isn't all torture," says event
director Matt Daye. The route includes plenty of rolling terrain
along the Blue Ridge Parkway and quiet country lanes. The ride ends
with a rush...the fast six-mile descent from the edge of the Blue Ridge
back into the foothills.
Riders in
the inaugural HP&A gave the course high marks for its grueling
grades, exhilarating descents, Blue Ridge Parkway vistas and beautiful
back-roads. The Hurt, Pain & Agony Metric Century is a mountain

floor up to the spine of the Blue Ridge Parkway. You climb up the ap
road and return back down the same road to the rolling terrain of the
foothills. We guarantee this to be one of the toughest rides that you
will grow to love! We will provide great support so that you can suffer
in "relative" comfort!

There's a good reason for holding this ride on "Labor" day.
The last 30 miles of this route are

Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride
2010 will be held September 11-12.
Bike MS is a 2-day cycling event that raises funds to support people
living with multiple sclerosis in eastern North Carolina and throughout
the United States. Money raised through this event funds MS research,
programs, services, and advocacy. In 2009, over 2,250 cyclists and 400
volunteers participated in the event and raised $1,736,537 to create a
world free of MS. This year, our goal is to raise $1.8 million!
We can
do it with YOUR HELP!
Bike MS cyclists enjoy two full days of riding through rural eastern
North Carolina. Each day, cyclists can choose to ride 30, 75,
50 or 100 miles
on fully-supported routes. At the conclusion of each day's ride,
cyclists are greeted by cheerful volunteers, a delicious, hot meal, ice
cold beverages, and live entertainment. It's a great time, you should
join us! Register today!
Comments from a
local rider about the 2003 Magical Mystery Tour:
"These two days of riding are probably two of the fastest century rides
of 2003. This tour is labeled the MS 150 because many riders take
on two 75 mile routes each day, but they also have century routes each
day to make it a double century weekend. I attended this tour in
2003 along with about 900 other riders, and it was fun and fast.
A slew of local riders from the Triangle joined me on the century
routes, and with the large turnout of riders you could drop into a pace
line at any speed you could ask for. All routes are supported
with aid stations and great volunteers because this event is a
fund-raiser for the MS Society."

The Rollin’ Round the River is a
bike tour, not a race, with plenty to see and do along the way. The
rolling out-and-back route is a snap to follow and, with no extended
climbs, it’s flat enough so everyone from novices to hard core racers
can have fun. Not sure you can finish the entire route: Ride as far as
you want, then turn around!

Join us on September 18th & 19th
for a beautiful cycling adventure along the backroads and rural
countryside of northern North Carolina.
The route both days will begin and end at Camp
Kanata, an amazing
YMCA camp just outside Wake Forest, NC. Each day you'll
travel perfectly maintained rural roads enjoying some of the most
beautiful scenery North Carolina has to offer. The route has
a perfect
combination of flat terrain and challenging hills to make it an event
everyone can enjoy.
As the Ride begins on Saturday morning, you'll greet
the day with
the sunrise lifting above beautiful horse farms and fields as you leave
Camp Kanata and travel north to the Virginia state line. Along
the
way, you'll take in the amazing scenery of rural roads, farms and some
breathtaking North Carolina countryside. You have the chance to
see
towns that you wouldn't normally get the chance to see from the
highway, like Pokomoke and Wilton! For those traveling the 100
mile
route you will cross the state line and enjoy lunch on Kerr Lake – IN
VIRGINIA! The route then brings you back at the end of the day
past
Falls Lake again returning to Camp Kanata for an incredible meal, hot
showers and live entertainment.
On Sunday morning, you'll again head north along a
different, but
equally beautiful route towards the little towns of Butner, Stem, and
Shoefly. Your route on Sunday will have you thinking of the
simple
joys of life and recalling images of Andy, Barney and Mayberry as you
roll through some of the prettiest backroads in our state.
Both days of the Ride are fully supported with fully
stocked and
friendly staffed Rest Stops roughly every 10-12 miles, so you are never
far from a smile or refreshments. Additionally, if you are ever
in
need of assistance along the route, there are Support & Gear (SAG)
vehicles constantly cruising the route and monitoring rider
progress.
The Ride Without Limits is a two-day cycling adventure
that will
leave you feeling physically challenged and rewarded for the good
work
that you are doing.

NCBC Fall Rally & Picnic Lunch!
The Fall Rally is different from the rallies we have earlier in the
year. We do not operate rest stops at this event, in order to give our
crew of frequent volunteers a chance to participate. This rally is more
relaxed and social, with a picnic lunch featuring Rudino's Pizza and
Subs starting at Noon.
We will still have plenty of drinks and snacks to load up on at the
start of the ride. The cue sheets and maps will have stores with
restrooms clearly marked. People have enjoyed this style of rally for
the last two years, and it has worked well. We hope you can join us for
this year's!
We need help for this event! Gayle Lundeen is this year's director, and
we still need people to help register riders in the morning, and one or
two people to be on hand for sag service. If you can help, even for a
while please notify us at fallrally@ncbikeclub.org. Gracious thanks for
helping support NCBC!
Date: Sunday, October 11th, 2009 - rain or shine
Distances: 70 miles, 43 miles, and 28 miles
Time: Registration starts at 8:15 AM.
