Get on the road and ride through much of Caldwell County's most beautiful hills and valleys. If your only ride here has been the Bridge to Bridge, this ride is for you! It is a 100K route that starts and ends in downtown Lenoir. It has all the rolling beauty and challenge of the Bridge without the painful finish! No Hwy 181 and no Grandfather Mountain!! Or, if you prefer, there will be a shorter 44 mile option.

This route has more than 20 hills and wanders through 3 beautiful mountain valleys — Zack's Fork, Happy Valley, and Collettsville. Except for the beginning and the last mile, the whole route is on lightly trafficked, two lane roads.

It's a great way to get ready for Mt. Mitchell! The ride will be fully supported, including three rest stops, marshals at most turns, three sag vehicles patrolling the course, and a filling meal when you return.

The BSG is a full English century - 100 mile loop ride starting and ending at the Valle Crucis Elementary School, approximately 5 miles south of Boone, North Carolina. The route roughly circles Boone through the outskirts of Watauga County, the heart of North Carolina's High Country. The terrain is constantly changing with hills of all lengths and curves too numerous to count. The cumulative climbing elevation is 13,000+ feet, with the climb up to the gap at Snake Mountain, milepoint 63, reaching an 18-20% grade near the top. Riders reaching the Cove Creek aid station (milepoint 82) after 2:30pm will be directed to the finish at Valle Crucis, resulting in a total distance ride of 87 miles.

The Half Century ride, approximately 47 miles, will start and finish at the Valle Crucis Elementary School. The course follows a mostly separate route and is fully supported with 2 aide stations. The uphills are not too bad, and there are 2 really great downhills. The cumulative climbing elevation is 5,800 feet. All riders will be computer timed when they cross the finish line.

REGISTER EARLY!!! Registration Opens 2/1/08. This is a great ride and it sells-out quickly.

Definitely one of the premier mountain centuries. Highly recommended in Rocket Man's Ride Ratings. Try it, you'll like it.

Brushy Mountain Cyclists Club Get ready to suffer...the Hurt, Pain & Agony Metric Century is 64 miles of pure hill! The ride opens with a six-mile climb from Traphill in the North Carolina foothills to Roaring Gap atop the Blue Ridge. With 1,700 feet of elevation gain, a 5% average grade and several stretches of leg busting double-digit grades, it's the equivalent of a Category 2 climb in the Tour de France! Plenty of shorter hills follow as the ride winds through the highlands of Alleghany County, North Carolina and Grayson County, Virginia. Don't pop a wheelie as you tackle Mahogany Rock Road, the ride's steepest climb.

"The Hurt, Pain & Agony is tough, but it isn't all torture," says event director Matt Daye.  The route includes plenty of rolling terrain along the Blue Ridge Parkway and quiet country lanes. The ride ends with a rush...the fast six-mile descent from the edge of the Blue Ridge back into the foothills.

Riders in the inaugural HP&A gave the course high marks for its grueling grades, exhilarating descents, Blue Ridge Parkway vistas and beautiful back-roads. The Hurt, Pain & Agony Metric Century is a mountain classic.

The Roan Moan Century: Grueling! But one of the most beautiful rides you can do. It adds a climb over Unaka Mountain with a screaming downhill ride through the "tree tunnel" and into Erwin, Tennessee before joining the "Roan Moan" course. 8500 feet of climbing.

The Roan Moan Metric: A hard & beautiful "metric century plus" with the annual climb over Iron Mountain with its wild descent, the tour of "Simmerly Creek", "Tweetsie RR Grade" and ascent of the most unique mountain in the east. Ending with 15.7 miles of fast riding, almost all downhill, back to Bakersville & The Bicycle Inn.

This is a great ride. Nice people, nice town, nice scenery.  Lots of NCBC riders use this ride to tune-up for Bridge-to-Bridge. The route for this ride has gotten more difficult over the past few years. Last year it included over 105 miles with over 10,000 feet of climbing.

The Tour de Gaps is a challenging charity bicycle ride which starts in the foothills town of Mt. Airy, NC. The scenic ride takes the rider up four separate gap roads, each of which climbs from the foothills valley floor up to the spine of the Blue Ridge Parkway. You climb up the ap road and return back down the same road to the rolling terrain of the foothills. We guarantee this to be one of the toughest rides that you will grow to love! We will provide great support so that you can suffer in "relative" comfort!

The Charlottesville Racing Club is excited to present the Blue Ridge Extreme, taking place on August 24 this year.

Come join us for a challenging adventure that will lead you through the scenic Shenandoah and Rockfish Valleys, and along Crabtree Falls and the Tye River.  You'll later be astounded by the incredible panoramic views from atop the Blue Ridge Parkway.

However, before enjoying those heavenly delights, you'll be paying your dues:  first, by conquering the 6.3 mile Category 2 climb from Vesuvius to Round Mountain and later, by enduring the unforgiving 8.6 mile Category 1 climb up Reed's Gap and on to Raven's Roost!  Each climb offers a 2.3 mile 11% grade section of tantalizing joy.  Hear those cowbells, and you're near the summits.

You know about the excellent route support, finish-line festivities, food, free massages, showers, and more. This year we've adding several special new treats we think you'll enjoy.  Proceeds benefit various charitable organizations along the route.

So come join us August 24th with 400 other riders on a breathtaking experience you won't regret!

Comments from a local rider about the 2003 Magical Mystery Tour:
"These two days of riding are probably two of the fastest century rides of 2003.  This tour is labeled the MS 150 because many riders take on two 75 mile routes each day, but they also have century routes each day to make it a double century weekend.  I attended this tour in 2003 along with about 900 other riders, and it was fun and fast.  A slew of local riders from the Triangle joined me on the century routes, and with the large turnout of riders you could drop into a pace line at any speed you could ask for.  All routes are supported with aid stations and great volunteers because this event is a fund-raiser for the MS Society."

The 7th annual TOUR de LEAVES bike ride is a beautiful ride through Western North Carolina and South Carolina. The ride features short and long climbs through Henderson and Polk counties in North Carolina and Greenville County South Carolina. The "moderate" route features 2,500 feet of climbing, the metric 4,691 feet, and the Century has 7850 feet. The last 10 miles are relatively flat (phew!). Brilliant colors of orange, yellow, and red set against the deep green pine and laurel forest make this a unique ride. Dress in layers because the air is crisp to start.
