We had
5 teams for this morning's ride starting
from Matt and Amy Dean's house in
Johnston County.
The teams: Matt & Amy Dean (our hosts),
Ed & Jeanne Downing (it was good to see
Jeanne back on the bike after her
surgery in the Fall), Chet Buell and
Cindy Van Der Wiele, Andy Stewart and
Emily Rosen, and Smith Doss & Claude
Monnier.
Matt and Amy had scouted 2 routes for
us: a 30 mile and a 45 mile route. Each
of them had the now infamous "new sandy
hill road" hill. We remembered it from
the Frost Bite ride we did in February
(fairly well named, we may say). Matt
and Amy pretended to have a mechanical
so we had to ride down the hill and back
up (not quite true, Chet called the
mechanical).
The routes split right after the big
hill, the long route took us along lake
Buckhorn reservoir, for the city of
Wilson.
Sprint points go to: Chet and Cindy
(Wilson Co), Smith & Claude (Nash Co,
and Johnston Co). The airborne stunt:
Smith & Claude bunny hopped over the
mean tracks getting into the town of
Bailey.
Finally the wind reminded us it is March
after all for about 10 miles back to the
ranch.
We enjoyed the coffee and donuts after
the ride, the dogs enjoyed salty bikers
back, and willing to pet them.
Great thanks to Matt and Amy for laying
out great routes in rural Johnston Co.
Did we get passed by what, 10 cars?
